This painting, impressive in size (190 x 145 cm), embodies the encounter of two different worlds.
The artist, Symon, depicts a young Balinese man, whose intense gaze is clearly visible, divided between inner peace, typical of the Hindu religion, and the most caricatured clichés of the Western world, symbolically represented through the celebrity press clippings in the background and red stilettos.
Symon is known for his talent as a portraitist and analyses each facial feature which he loves to highlight and exaggerate, while still retaining a sense of realism.
