Acrylic painting on canvas
The confused giant is a superb giant painting, 250 x 135 cm, where the colours dear to Teja Astawa, blue and bronze are used in harmony.
It is an illustration of good and evil in Balinese culture. In this work, the artist uses sacred symbols, such as monkeys, and evil icons, such as the giant’s long tooth. The giant imagined by Teja is confused because he is trapped between two opposing forces, the yin and the yang. Teja’s genius is to marry the intensity of oversized shapes with the softness of the colour tones he likes to use.
